New breakthrough thinking in organizational learning, leadership, and change.
Continuous improvement, understanding complex systems, and promoting innovation are all part of the landscape of learning challenges today's companies face. Amy Edmondson shows that organizations thrive, or fail to thrive, based on how well the small groups within those organizations work. In most organizations, the work that produces value for customers is carried out by teams, and increasingly, by flexible team-like entities. The pace of change and the fluidity of most work structures means that it's not really about creating effective teams anymore, but instead about leading effective teaming.
Teaming shows that organizations learn when the flexible, fluid collaborations they encompass are able to learn. The problem is teams, and other dynamic groups, don't learn naturally. Edmondson outlines the factors that prevent them from doing so, such as interpersonal fear, irrational beliefs about failure, groupthink, problematic power dynamics, and information hoarding. With Teaming, leaders can shape these factors by encouraging reflection, creating psychological safety, and overcoming defensive interpersonal dynamics that inhibit the sharing of ideas. Further, they can use practical management strategies to help organizations realize the benefits inherent in both success and failure.
- Presents a clear explanation of practical management concepts for increasing learning capability for business results
- Introduces a framework that clarifies how learning processes must be altered for different kinds of work
- Explains how Collaborative Learning works, and gives tips for how to do it wel
- Includes case-study research on Intermountain healthcare, Prudential, GM, Toyota, IDEO, the IRS, and both Cincinnati and Minneapolis Children's Hospitals, among others
Based on years of research, this book shows how leaders can make organizational learning happen by building teams that learn.

Bravo! This is a wonderful book for anyone who is interested changing organizations, or the world at large! I've been doing Organizational Development work and have stacks of stacks of books on the topic of change, leadershipship, organizational improvement etc. etc. Amy's book takes her many years of wonderful experience and points us in a clear direction for moving forward into a more complex era of organizational and planatary change. Teaming is just the starting point. It's really about learning as we seek to execute strategies in increasingly complex environments and times. What a pleasure to come across a "management" and/or"Business/Organizational" book that is not boring and insipid as about 95% of what is written in these categories usually is. Most highly recommended.

Teaming How Organizations Learn Innovate and Compete in the Knowledge Economy (Audible Audio Edition) Amy C Edmondson Vanessa Hart Audible Studios Books Reviews
this book is cutting edge for anyone building teams, coaching teams, or really any team member -- I love the idea that "team" is a verb. a go-to resource
Excellent book. Bought it for a class, but very satisfied with the purchase. Definitely a book to have, career wise, to add to your library as a source and reference.
I teach organizations how to apply the Toyota Management System to their work. Teaming is critical to that work and this book really offers a in depth explanation of how the teams must function to be successful.
Great service. Timely delivery
This book can be really helpful if one is sincerely trying to improve as a team leader. Doesn't provide quick fixes, but fixes that will pay off if you are willing to put the effort in.
This book presents interesting concepts but would be a much better academic article than a book. Not enough substance and very repetitive. Wish I didn't buy it.
In a complex and fast-moving economy, on-the-fly teaming is required to solve our toughest problems. We must gather experts, focus them, and develop solutions to remain competitive as an organization and as a country. Command-and-control leadership, which works in more predictable ways in manufacturing-based cultures, falls far short in a knowledge-based and adaptive culture. Teaming and collaboration that combine different talents, points of view, and perspectives capture value more readily in this more complex environment. The fundamentals of teaming—like taking risks, embracing failure, and crossing boundaries—feel unnatural to command-and-control cultures but are necessary if we are to compete successfully.
